As a food reviewer of Restaurant World, I had the pleasure of experiencing the magic that this cocktail bar and Filipino restaurant has to offer. Nestled in the vibrant Temescal district, FOB Kitchen brings a modern twist to traditional Filipino dishes, captivating both locals and visitors alike.
From the moment you step through the ADA-compliant main entrance, you are greeted with a welcoming and trendy atmosphere. The restaurant offers a range of utilities, from vegan options to a full bar, making it a versatile and inclusive dining destination. The outdoor seating, complete with heated options, adds to the intimate and casual vibe of the place.
But what truly sets FOB Kitchen apart is its exceptional hospitality and attention to detail. Customer reviews rave about the flavorful and palatable dishes, such as Pancit Sotanghon, Shanghai Lumpia, and Pork Adobo. The Mango Lemonade, a refreshing beverage choice, perfectly complements the bold flavors of the cuisine.
The standout highlight, however, is the impeccable service provided by the staff. From the moment of arrival to the joyful birthday celebrations led by server Rosa, guests are made to feel special and valued. My friend and I visited the FOB Kitchen in Oakland, CA on Thursday, 6/20/24, around 6:30 PM for dinner. We came here to celebrate my birthday. In terms of food, I was able to try Pancit Sotanghon, Shanghai Lumpia, and Pork Adobo with white rice. All of the food was flavorful and palatable. The dishes tasted even better with their homemade hot sauce. I also ordered the Mango Lemonade as my beverage. It was truly fruity, slightly tart, and refreshing. The inside of the restaurant was gorgeous. I loved all of the decor and the overall layout. What made it even more nice was the plants throughout the place. The highlight of my dining experience was being served by Rosa. She was beyond friendly, pleasant, and attentive. When I informed her about my birthday, she brought out one scoop of Ube ice cream with a candle on top. She started to sing "Happy Birthday" and everyone else in the restaurant joined as well. I felt very special, thanks to her lead. She ended the song by giving me a warm hug. Overall, I was amazed by not only the food but also the spectacular, unforgettable hospitality from Rosa. She truly made my night. I highly recommend visiting the FOB Kitchen.

Oh my goodness. This place brings Filipino food as a competitor to the fore front of main stream. Generally from my experience, people don't think of eating Filipino food at a sit down restaurant, but it's 2024 and it's made progress. This place definitely is bringing its A-game to make Filipino food more popular. In the heart of the Temescal district. This place blew my mind. Was expecting a watered down tocinolog dish, but oh man, the presentation is boojie, but the taste brings me to my nanays kitchen. Service was awesome. Definitely a go to spot for brunch. Will be coming back and showing the same love they showed me.

I've been wanting to try this place ever since they were featured on Check, Please! Bay Area a couple years back. Decided to go with my boyfriend for a sunny Saturday brunch. It was located in a plaza with many parking spots. It wasn't busy during the time we went but I can't imagine how busy it gets in the early afternoon/evenings. ( *Tip for anyone coming in the evening, make sure to join the waitlist on Yelp!) We walked in and were given menus, then ordered at the front. (It was only later after we got our food when we were told that usually it is a sit down restaurant, they were just understaffed this day) On to the food... Lumpiang Shanghai: We ordered this as an appetizer. Had a bit of a confusion with the person giving us the order because it came after the brunch dishes were served. I enjoyed the crispiness of the lumpia, but there definitely was not enough filling. The sweet & sour sauce had a nice kick! Nice juxtaposition between savory & sweet/sour. 7/10 Daing na Bangus: I was ecstatic to try this because of the reviews I've read prior. I was a bit nervous because I love my Daing na Bangus to be almost DRENCHED in vinegar. I'm sure others might agree.... Right? Hahaha. It did not disappoint! Very flavorful and perfectly cooked bangus. I like the addition of cherry tomatoes and green onions on top to add some freshness. I appreciate the addition of the side salad with garlic rice. Not to mention--the egg was cooked just how I like it. Nice & runny. 9.5/10. Tocino-silog: My boyfriend had ordered this and overall was a bit disappointed. The tocino he got was pretty burnt. We compared it to another table who had the tocino as well and it definitely didn't look like his. There wasn't a lot of flavor. It was okay. His side salad was overdressed as well. 6.5/10 Halo-Halo: Our favorite! Perfect dessert for a warm day. All the best parts of Halo-Halo were included. Loved the modern twist by adding fruity pebbles on top. 9/10 Overall, if you're looking for a modern twist on classic Filipino dishes I recommend this place. Some things will be a hit or miss. We'll definitely be back for dinner. 3.95/5.

Came here with some friends for Oakland restaurant week. It was a miracle that we were able to get seated almost immediately for a group of 4, and service was consistently kind and attentive throughout even though they had all tables full! The restaurant itself is also beautiful, the tables are spacious, and tables are spaced far enough apart that you can actually enjoy conversation with your friends. I loved all the plants on the shelves above us, made it feel so tropical and airy. The food itself was incredible, and I loved how vegetarian friendly it was (half our group was vegetarian). We got pretty much everything on the restaurant week menu, and each course impressed us. Standouts were the two salads (some preferred the jicama, others the eggplant), the pancit soranghon, and the turon dessert. It was interesting that each one of us had a different favorite dish--the hallmark of a place that's super special and executes well. And indeed, all the food felt beautifully and thoughtfully constructed. Definitely coming back!!
